Pack It Up and Pass It On

Recycling in Its Purest Form: REUSE

"Pack It Up and Pass It On" is the annual university recycling program that allows our students to leave behind items they no longer need to benefit needy San Marcos residents.  Last year, we diverted an estimated seven tons of student donations from landfills and assisted more than 1,000 needy residents as they "shopped" for free items in the LBJ Student Center Ballroom. Get involved! Clean out your closets and garages! Faculty, staff, departments, divisions, student organizations and programs are asked to consider "adopting" a residence hall. All you have to do is visit "your" hall once a day from April 28 to May 13, bag items that students leave in the Pack It Up barrels, and transport them to a storage POD near the hall for safekeeping until sorting begins. If you can help, please e-mail Kim Porterfield at kp10@txstate.edu or call Community Relations at 512.245.9645. Volunteer shifts are flexible enough to meet any schedule. If you have items to donate, you can drop them off at a POD May 1-14. Donations are also being accepted from non-student residents. Call 512.245.9645 to make drop off arrangements. Watch our "Pack It Up" video here.
